TEK in brief

Academic Engineers and Architects in Finland (TEK)

  • Represents and serves the interests of Masters of Science in Technology, architects and other professionals with a similar technical degree;
  • Promotes technology for the benefit of people, the environment and society;
  • Represents its members in professional, educational and social matters related to employment, and
  • is the second-largest member association of AKAVA.

With over 70,000 members, TEK is the largest association representing engineers and architects in Finland. A significant number of members are physicists, mathematicians, information system scientists, or have an academic degree in some other discipline.

The association adopted its current name in 1993. Through its predecessors and background organisations, The Engineering Society of Finland (STS), Tekniska Föreningen i Finland (TFiF) and The Finnish Association of Architects and Engineers (KAL), TEK draws on over one hundred years of experience.

TEK represents professionals in the technological field. TEK negotiates and concludes collective agreements concerning salaries and conditions of employment in industry and in the service sector through the Federation of Professionals and Managerial Staff (YTN), and in the public sector through the Public Sector Negotiating Commission (JUKO). TEK also promotes the interests of its members in areas of tax, housing, social and employment policy, as well as influencing Finnish technology and education policy.
